December 2016

December 2016

As the holidays approach it gives us all a chance to reflect on the past few months.  Many great things have happened in our schools and the district.  In these challenging economic times, I am extremely thankful that we have a Board of Education that truly understands the need to effectively manage its financial resources so the district can continue to offer all students an outstanding education.  Through prudent fiscal planning, but an eye always on educational programs, the board has maintained a high quality educational program.

Just as the School Board makes decision for the district, the parent, YOU, make very important decisions on how to raise your child and you become aware that you are your child's first teacher. It should not be surprising that your child's initial important learning environment is your home. Thus, it is very important for you to create learning environments at home as teachers do at school.  Your home setting can be a comforting, warm environment where your child very naturally learns and it can also be a stimulating place in which he/she learns to satisfy their curiosity by reading a book or completing a science project.   As a parent, you serve as an influential role model for your child as he or she learns about the world.  As your child is growing, it is fun for them to imitate you and copy your daily activities while they gain new skills and practices some old ones. The long winter holiday break gives parents some ample time to get reconnected with their son or daughter and enjoy their time together again.

School Closings

Due to changing weather conditions, there is always the possibility that classes may have to be dismissed early or cancelled for the day.  If school is cancelled or dismissed early you will be notified by our EZ School Message automated parent notification system, which will deliver a phone call, text message or e-mail supplied by parents/guardians for this purpose. If

you answer, you will hear a recorded message.  If you don’t answer the message should go to your voicemail. You can also tune to local radio and television stations for updated cancellation notices:

With the Christmas holiday fast approaching, I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the staff, parents, and community members who enthusiastically contribute so much to our District.  Great communities have great schools and we are so appreciative of your support. On behalf of the Barnes-Hanover-Linn School District and the Board of Education, I would like to wish all of you a Merry Christmas!  Best wishes for a safe December during your Holiday travels!
