The Principal’s Corner
“We Challenge, You Succeed”
The Twin Valley League basketball tournament is now officially in the books and for the first time in league history we had to postpone action on Thursday night and double up on Friday because of snow! The Lady Bulldogs left the tournament with a 2-1 record. The ladies lost in the first round to the Frankfort Wildcats but rebounded for wins against Onaga and Doniphan West in the round robin portion of the bracket. The guys lost in the first round to Troy who would become the 2015 champions and then lost two close ones to Blue Valley and Wetmore. The Bulldogs are in action at home this week with Valley Heights coming in on Tuesday and Onaga visiting on Friday. We are down to only four home games left on the schedule so we hope you can join us for some Bulldog basketball in the next few weeks!
As we mentioned earlier in the column we did have classes cancelled on Thursday due to the snow that moved into our area on Wednesday evening. We try to get all of our parents notified of our intentions via the EZ Message system but we realize that at times we have a family or two that might not get the message. However, we also post closings on the local radio and television stations and on our Facebook page. If you, or someone you know, did not get the call on Wednesday night and Thursday morning please have them contact the office.
Our varsity scholars’ bowl team placed third overall at their latest meet hosted by Valley Heights. Team members have had some success this season placing first at an earlier meet and just missing out on the final round at several others. Those students who have competed in Scholars’ Bowl are juniors Kalen Richardson, Claire Ohlde and Josh Trumble. Sophomores competing include Evan Bott, Tanner Spence, Brooke Beier, Grace Beikman, Hannah Dittmer, and Whitley Coke. Our freshman squad members include Preston Myers, Eder Martinez, Crystal Ayala, Robin Roberson, Joseph Trumble and Aaron Stuenkel. Our coach and sponsor is Ms. Rebecca Fischer. The team is now gearing up for regional action on February 4th!
The junior high basketball season is now complete with both teams losing first round games in the BVL Tournament. The boys ended their season with a 4-9 record and the girls finished up 5-8. Both team showed growth and improvement during the season and they played with enthusiasm during each contest. This group will now focus in on junior high scholars’ bowl and track as we move into the spring activities.
Our high school cheer squad and their sponsor, Alejandra Bliss will be hosting our annual Bitty Cheer Clinic on February 6th in the new gym. Forms were sent home with the students who expressed an interest in attending and we already have a number of those coming back into the office. The bitty cheerleaders will perform on February 12th when we host Troy!
It is great to be a Bulldog!
