The Principal’s Corner

“We Challenge, You Succeed”

Spring Break is over and we now turn our attention to staying focused and finishing the school year on a positive note!  The school year has really flown by and it is hard to believe that we have already completed three grading periods and are now entering the spring sports and activity portion of the calendar.  As the temperatures begin to warm up and the weather becomes more pleasant it will become difficult not to focus in on the lazy days of summer.  However, we have a lot yet to accomplish and our staff and students will do their very best to stay focused on their performance over the next few months!

Just as soon as we arrived back to school on Monday our students started the Kansas State Assessments.  The testing window for the state assessments will cover the time period from March 21st and run through April 21st with some testing going on every day but those that students are not in the building.  These tests are important as we use them to gauge the academic growth of every student (Grades 3-11) in the building.  We have posted the testing calendar in the hallway and are asking parents and students to make every effort to be here on the days they are scheduled to test.  We have very little in the way of opportunity to make up these required tests if a student is absent.

Our 5-12 musicians and Mrs. Pachta will be performing some instrumental numbers on Tuesday, March 28th at 7:00 pm.  The 5th and 6th grade students will present numbers they have been working on this year and our 7-12 band will entertain us with their competition pieces and some other songs they have been rehearsing these past few months.  This will be one last performance prior to competing at the state large group contest where they will try to duplicate the I rating they earned at the TVL meet in February.  We will also have our 9-12 choir performing several numbers and Abbi Snider, Michelle Richardson, Hunter York and Raven Roberson will each perform a vocal solo.  Please plan on attending and allow us to share our musical talents with you and your family!

A couple of other important dates you might want to mark on your calendar are the TVL Art Contest which is hosted by Hanover this year.  We always provide the opportunity to view the 9-12 student art work at the Awards Program in May but this contest will give everyone the chance to see artwork from the other league schools.  The last two years the event was hosted at Doniphan West which made it difficult for parents and others to attend.  The date for the contest is March 30th and if you would like to see the various pieces of work you will want to visit during the morning hours.  Another date will be the “Meet the Bulldogs” for our spring activities of track and field and gold.  This will take place in the new gym on April 1st starting at 6:30 pm.  Come on out and meet the coaches and athletes for both junior high and high school track and golf!  Lastly, April 4th is Kindergarten Round-Up for the parents and students of next year’s Kindergarten class.  We have sent out letters to those children we have identified as being old enough to attend but we may have missed some of the newer children who have moved into our district.  If you know of someone that may have a child old enough to attend Kindergarten (Age 5 by September 1, 2016) then have them contact the office for further information.

Remember we do not have school on March 25th or on March 30th!

It is great to be a Bulldog!
