Trevor Heitman and Brent Reith, members of the Class of 2006, were honored this past Tuesday night by the University of Kansas Alumni Association. This group honors those seniors from every high school in Washington and Marshall counties who have achieved excellence in the academic setting. We would like to congratulate these two young men and thank the members of the alumni association for their efforts in recognizing our youth.
The forensics team participated in a meet at Valley Heights on March 7th and several of our students placed at the meet. Miranda Wilgers placed 6th in Informative Speaking; Ashtyn Meyer and Tosha Thompson ere 7th in Duet Acting; Colby Walter and Adam Rogge were 7th in IDA; and Nick Tiemeyer and Shaun Ohlde were 9th in the same event.
Progress on the building continues and it appears that something new is happening every time I check in for an update. This week a crew was here to start covering the seams in the sheetrock in the main portion of the gym. The electrical and mechanical crew has installed the duct work and gym lights and the paint crew has much of the lobby, restrooms, and locker rooms completed. Although it sounds like we are getting very close to finishing the project we still have a ways to go.
We hosted our winter sports banquet on Friday night. Members of both the men's and women's basketball teams as well as the cheerleaders were awarded their letters and the coaches visited about the past season and goals for the off-season. Those athletes who were voted to the Twin Valley League All-League Basketball team were also honored and this year the Bulldogs garnered four places on the squad. Sophomore Katie Hiltgen was a first-team selection and Junior Angie Spence was a second-team pick. On the boys team the Bulldogs place Seniors Travis Bott and Schuyler Peters on the second team. Congratulations! We have started
Our staff and students have been preparing for the state assessments since the beginning of the school year. In fact, we started preparing the minute we concluded the 2005 testing last May. That time of the year is now upon us when we have to quit the practicing and begin the actual assessments. Seventh grade math and 7th, 8th and 11th grade reading are already being administered and the remainder of the tests will be given after Spring Break. In case you are wondering the "testing window" is open from March 1st to April 17th. These tests are computer based which means we have to schedule times for eh class to visit our lab areas. We are excited about getting the process started and look forward to sharing the data with you in the future. Since this is a new cycle, with new baseline data being developed, we will not have "validated" data until late during the first semester of the 2006-2007 school year.
Remember parents -- Spring Break is March 17th, 20th, and 21st!
Until next week...
