HHS Student Guidelines Regarding Prom

By Valeria Converse

The USD #223 Student Handbook and Code of Conduct apply for all students and their dates. In an effort to further make Prom a memorable and positive one for all, the following guidelines have been scripted.  Please review them and know that if any areas of need have not been addressed, but need to be, they will be dealt with as fairly as possible.

It is sincerely hoped that PROM will be a safe event enjoyed by all.   This common goal and the willingness of those involved to work to that means can make the goal a reality.

  • Junior sponsors will provide a sign-up sheet for students to complete regarding outside dates for prom.   Information required includes:  date’s name, school of attendance, age, year in high school, parent/guardian and a working telephone number.  Accuracy is expected.   (Junior Class Sponsors will handle the decorating, sign-up lists, prom-server selections, etc.)

  • Outside dates will be treated in the same fashion as their HHS counterparts and should know the school expectations and agree to them…verbally or in writing as determined by sponsors.

  • Once students check in through HHS screening for prom, students are expected to remain in the building. Students who do choose to leave the premise will be required to sign out with the time being noted.  They will not be re-admitted.

  • Access for students will be limited to the lunch room restrooms, the cafeteria area and the gymnasium.

  • Any student in question regarding alcohol consumption will have parent or legal guardian contacted to come and pick up noted student.   The principal  reserves the right to contact sheriff’s department personnel to also attend prom pre-screening and to be in attendance on the premise at any time.

  • If parent/legal guardian of a student demonstrating questionable behavior cannot be contacted, the principal  will contact legal authorities to further screen given student(s) for use of illegal substances or other violations of handbook/code of conduct policies.

  • No large purses or bags such as duffel bags, backpacks, etc., will be allowed into Prom.  Purses and camera cases will be examined upon arrival; however, it will be the responsibility of the students to keep track of their own items throughout the evening.
