Hello again,

Our attempt at having graduation on the earliest possible day was obviously thwarted after the Ad Astra Reopening Plan 1.5 came out. Since then, we have been waiting to see if any other changes would take place, collecting thoughts, opinions, speaking with parents, and most importantly, the seniors, concerning the “where” and “when” for graduation date(s). The universal and almost unanimous requests were that we maintain a traditional graduation and that there were no limitations on numbers in attendance. That moved us into July. Consequently, USD 223 graduation will look different this year and break from the recent tradition of both schools having identical ceremony times.

In Hanover, graduation will be on Sunday, July 12, 2020, at 1:00 p.m.

In Linn, graduation will be on Saturday, July 18, 2020, at 9:00 a.m.

If the restrictions are extended, we will alter the ceremony. These dates and times will not change.

I apologize for the inconvenience this has caused some of you. When the earlier date was set, the intent was to get it done as quickly as possible and allow the seniors some closure. We all know how that turned out. Trying to kick through moving goalposts has been a lesson in humility.

Additionally, USD 108 – Washington County will continue serving meals through the end of July. Pick up sites are in Greenleaf at the old Coop Station from 12:15 p.m - 12:30 p.m or in Washington at the Elementary School from 11:00 a.m - 12:00 p.m.  All they ask is that you contact them at lunch@usd108.org OR call (785) 325-2261, ext 3 ahead of time for an accurate headcount. The student does NOT need to be present to receive a meal. Parents can pick up for the child. If this is something that you would like to take advantage of, please contact them at your convenience.

I hope you find some time to enjoy the holiday weekend with nine family and friends while wearing masks and staying six feet apart.

Thank you,

John Whetzal
