GIRLS SUB STATE - TICKET INFORMATION This is the information regarding the purchasing of Sub-State Tickets for the Girl's Semi-Final Game this Thursday at Axtell. This information and the link to purchase the tickets is being sent to the parents/ relatives of the players exclusively, at first, so that they are guaranteed to have first shot at the tickets that are available. That will be exclusive and private Tuesday Afternoon, at which time the remainder of the seats will be released to the Public for purchase. In order to guarantee that the parents and relatives get their tickets they need to purchase them before then. 1. Each person, Mom, Dad, Brother and Sister, may purchase 4 tickets maximum. Please talk to any relatives of yours who want to attend but who may be limited technologically and help them to buy, or buy them for them, if they do not have a cell-phone that they will be able to present at the Gate for Admission. PLEASE READ AND UNDERSTAND!!! NO ONE WILL BE ADMITTED with a printout of the ticket purchased screen OR by presenting a cell phone or device with only a screenshot of the tickets purchased. Neither of these options allows for the ticket to be validated and would, therefore, allow 2 people to enter for each ticket purchased if they were to be accepted. There will be a validate button beside each ticket purchased that will actually be done at the gate by pushing that button, so they must have access to that screen. *The fact that each person with access to this link may purchase 4 tickets should allow for the assistance of those who may have problems doing so. 2. Non-relatives, or the General Public, will have the opportunity to purchase tickets when they become available on the Public Market. In order to ensure that the Parent's and Relatives have first access to purchase tickets, Please do not share this link with anyone that is not a relative. 3. There are going to be 300 tickets available for each school and I believe that this should be enough to accommodate both relatives and the public. The girls basketball team will be given the ticket information tonight (3/1) at practice. They will provide a link to their family and relatives. Each person can purchase 4 tickets. To repeat, a screenshot or printout of the ticket screen will NOT gain you admittance to the game. After tickets are purchased, there will be a "VALIDATE" button beside the ticket. The gate will need to be able to push that validate button for the ticket to be used for admittance. So you will need to be able to access that gofan screen with validate button at the gate. Click the youtube link below for assistance with purchasing tickets. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkZqTY5d6Bg

KSHSAA Board of Directors recently voted to allow more fans into basketball games STARTING JANUARY 29. This will be the TVL attendance policy beginning January 29, 2021. 1. Away teams---will be allowed to bring parents/guardians/step parents only and are on the parent/guardian list and will check in at the gate. Individual schools may use the option to limit further if needed. 2. No cheerleaders at away games 3. Home teams----can use what their gym allows as well as county health and school board guidelines. Up to 4 spectators per family, with the gym staying at 50% capacity. Individual schools may use the option to limit further if needed. In short, away games there is no change except, step parents/guardians will now be allowed to attend as well. For home games, each participant (players, cheerleaders, managers, coaches) will be given 4 tickets per family to use at their discretion. We must keep our gym capacity at 50% or below. Anyone, regardless of age, must have a ticket to gain entrance. Masks and social distancing will still be required.

Good afternoon, First, let me congratulate our football team and coaching staff for having the opportunity to represent our school and community in another trip to the State Championship game. We are very proud of all of our students for the time and hard work they put in both academically and in extra-curricular activities. Below is a letter sent out by KSHSAA Executive Director Bill Faflick to the administration of all schools participating in next weekend's State Championship games. As per the following letter, there will be limited crowd capacity at Saturday's game. Once this attendance capacity and the game protocols have been finalized, we will notify you through social media and the school website regarding the number of available tickets and how to purchase them. Tickets will first be made available to the parents of the players. I would not anticipate that information being available before Tuesday of this week. If you do have any question or concerns, please contact me directly so I can address them for you or connect you with someone who can. Although limited capacity may not be what we had hoped for, we are thankful to KSHSAA and the City of Newton for the opportunity that our young men get to participate in the game and represent the Hanover Schools and community. John Whetzal Superintendent of Schools USD 223 Barnes-Hanover-Linn _______________________________________________________________________ Superintendents and Principals, Congratulations on your win last night and your successful football season. We are making final preparations for your teams to compete this next Saturday in Newton to play for a championship in one of the 8-Player games. In that regard, with a significant amount of criticism being directed to the KSHSAA re necessary fan restrictions, I want you to be aware we have three options, and only three options for this championship Saturday: 1. Play each game in Newton with 500 fans in attendance for each game; 2. Play each game in Newton with no fans in attendance; 3. Cancel the games. At this time, it is not possible nor appropriate to move the games. I have significant concerns that the actions of some may cause our host site to close their facility for our use and not allow the games to be played. This year, and possibly for future years. The current conditions across the state yield community health and safety decisions no one likes, but they are necessary. Again, we congratulate your team and want to see them play, but you should be aware the actions of some may compromise that opportunity for your students. If you can help put perspective on this for your community, it would be helpful. In the attached file (the file is not attached in this post), you will find an effort to rally against the community leaders who allow us to play in their facility. Any such rally is perilous and may end up backfiring. Additionally, as an FYI, the response Mr. Lentz is providing for patrons emailing him to complain follows: Mr/Mrs. XXXX: I am in receipt of your email and concern over the limitations. The city of Newton, along with the High School and the Recreation Department have worked diligently to work through the guidelines of Harvey County each and every week. This is more so during the pandemic we are all facing. The limitation from the KSHSAA is no more than 50% stadium capacity unless a county has a more strict capacity limitation. Early this week the limitation was greater then it turned into fewer fans yesterday. Therefore, the game has a limitation of 500 fans. The KSHSAA will not be moving the 8-player championship games at the last minute. There is a great deal that goes into hosting a state championship football game, even more so during a global pandemic. I know many say they will follow all the requirements placed on them, but social media has proven that so many do not follow the guidelines and limitations. With this being said, congratulations to your school team on the success this season. We are happy to say kids are getting a chance to continue playing the sport of football. Unfortunately, not all fans are given the opportunity to watch the games in person. There are many unfortunates involved with 2020, as hospitals are full, health care workers are struggling and counties have difficult decisions to make. Since this is all about letting kids continue in this sport, we will provide them an opportunity to compete with limited fans, as stated by each Kansas county and host site. All sites have limitations and they vary from site to site, but the maximum attendance is 50% at all sites and less in most. Thank you, Mark Lentz Again, you may be in agreement with the KSHSAA position or maintain the view of your parents, but I certainly hope you recognize the potentially compromising position we are in at this time. Bill Faflick Executive Director - KSHSAA

KSHSAA and their Executive Board recently met to discuss Winter Sports protocols. KSHSAA proposed to delay winter sports seasons until January 15th. Schools would still be permitted to practice as normal, but the first competition couldn't be until January 15th. The season would go from 20 games to 13 games, and post season would remain in tact. KSHSAA also proposed not allowing fans through January. This would also be in effect for Junior High sports as well. You can find the whole breakdown here: http://www.kshsaa.org/public/covid/pdf/winteractivityproposalppt.pdf Representatives were asked to gather input from all stakeholders. Regardless if you agree with the proposal or not, please let your voice be heard. You can do this by emailing Executive Board members, emails found here : https://www.kshsaa.org/Public/General/Committees.cfm

Just a few reminders before the start of school tomorrow! 1. Everyone is to enter the building through the front doors starting at 7:40. At 7:40 students will be temperature checked, and once cleared, will be given a sticker to indicate they can enter the building. The stickers are to remain visible, and worn throughout the entire day. 2. Any visitors will have to go through the same process. We will try and limit visitors as much as we can to cut down on exposure. 3. Masks are to be worn in the building, and we will social distance when we can. We are all looking forward to a tremendous year and to getting into a routine again. This will be a team effort that requires flexibility and adaptability. This will be a learning process and we will do whatever we can to move forward and help our students as best we can. Let's have a great 2020-21 school year. Go Wildcats! Cory Jensen, K-12 Principal

Parents and Staff, First, I want to sincerely thank all of you for your patience, support, and willingness to help as we finalize plans for the upcoming school year. As you know, this fall will present some unique challenges that none of us have dealt with, and it will take everyone working together like never before. Our plan is close to completion and we will offer virtual learning to those that are uncomfortable in a traditional school setting. My intent is to have the document to our Board of Education for approval today or tomorrow. Once they are satisfied with the contents, I will post them publicly. The plan is to have this out no later than Monday afternoon. Our plan will follow national, state, and local guidelines to protect our students and staff as much as possible. Please know that the health and safety of our students and staff will continue to remain our top priority while continuing to provide a quality education to our students. There are many topics and scenarios to discuss and go through in finalizing this document. The contents will continuously evolve throughout the year as information and guidelines change from the State Department of Education, the State of Kansas, Washington County, and the CDC. At this time, we have decided to move our K-12 student start date to Wednesday, August 19, 2020. The Barnes Pre-School start date will also move to Wednesday, August 19, 2020. Enrollment dates and times will stay the same. Again, there is an excessive amount of variables to address and we may very well miss something initially. If you have any questions or comments, please contact me directly. I will post any and all pertinent updates to everyone through our district protocols. I will continue to update you with information as it is finalized. Thank you, John Whetzal Superintendent USD 223 Barnes – Hanover - Linn

Parents, tomorrow starting at 8:00 am to 11:00 am and 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm we will be opening the school for students/parents to pickup their personal items/textbooks. Things to keep in mind: there could be a wait as we can only allow a certain amount of people in at a time. If you are waiting, please wait in your car as we want to avoid congregating. Elementary student’s items will be in their classrooms. Secondary student’s (7-12) items will be in the gym at a table labeled with their student grade. EVERYONE is to enter using the main entrance (by the office). -Elementary go directly to your classroom and back out the main entrance. -Secondary, go directly to the gym and out the northeast gym door when you are finished collecting your things. -Kindergarten, use Mrs Doebele’s entrance on the northwest side of the school. After this day of pickup, there is to be no one in the school without building administration permission.
