AES Engineering Scholarship
AES Engineering is pleased to be able to continue offering scholarships to motivated students to help in the furthering of their education. We are offering a $500 scholarship that will be awarded on the basis of character, as determined by an evaluation of the essays that are submitted. Scholarships are intended for our future leaders across a wide spectrum of fields of study. You are not required to be taking engineering courses to be eligible. Students must submit an essay of between 500 and 1000 words in answer to the following question: When you look back on your life in 30 years, what would it take for you to consider your life successful? K-State Engineering Scholars Day
K-State Engineering Scholars Day is Monday, October 21, 2019. Qualified high school seniors (28 ACT/1310 SAT and above and 3.6 GPA and above)are invited to register to attend. Students must apply by via an application form which will soon be located at https://scholarsday.engg.ksu.edu/ The day is designed to assist high school senior students and their guests in exploring engineering majors, career options and research opportunities. Participants will attend information sessions, interact with faculty, engage with engineering design teams and student organizations, and have an opportunity to explore campus life. Lunch will be provided. Students and their guests are welcome to attend free of charge.
DAR Good Citizen Scholarship Contest
The DAR Good Citizens program and scholarship contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The program is open to all senior class students. The student selected as the school’s DAR Good Citizen must have the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism to an outstanding degree. This contest requires the supervised writing of an essay, as well as a personal outline consisting of a description of how you have tried to manifest the qualities of a good citizen. Only one senior from our school can be selected for this honor. If you have interest in applying for this opportunity, please let me know no later than October 18, 2019. The Horatio Alger Association State/National
Since 1984, the Horatio Alger Association has awarded nearly $159 million in college scholarships to 20,000 deserving students. The scholarship programs provide financial assistance to students throughout the nation who have financial need and have exhibited integrity and strength of character, as well as perseverance in overcoming adversity. Applicants must exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree (may transfer from a two-year institution) and have a GPA of 2.0. I would highly encourage you to apply, as the number of applicants has been somewhat minimal state-wide.
The Coca-Cola Scholars Program Scholarship
The Coca-Cola Scholars Program Scholarship is an achievement-based scholarship awarded to graduating high school seniors. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, as well as their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities. With the 31st class in 2019, the Foundation has provided over 6,150 Coca-Cola Scholars with more than $69 million in educational support. 150 Coca-Cola Scholars are selected each year to receive this $20,000 scholarship. The Coca-Cola System believes that investing in students who are leaders, both academically and in servitude to others, will result in positive, lasting change and sustainable communities. Fairbury Elks Lodge 1203 Scholarship Offerings
The Elks National Foundation will award 500 four-year scholarships to the highest-rated applicants in the 2019 competition. Current high school seniors, or the equivalent, who are citizens of the United States are eligible to apply. Applicants must be citizens of the United States on the date their applications are signed. Male and female students compete separately. Applications will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. The Hagan Scholarship Foundation
The Hagan Scholarship Foundation is an exempt foundation whose sole purpose is to provide scholarships to high achieving students in need of financial assistance in order to attend college. These students will graduate from a public high school located in rural communities having fewer than 50,000 residents. Three hundred fifty scholarships can be awarded each year. Hagan Scholars attend 236 colleges and universities across 37 states. The dollar amount of each Hogan Scholarship will vary and can be up to $6,000 each semester for eight semesters. Sunflower Union Pacific Credit Union offers a $250.00 scholarship to a graduating senior. The determining criterion involves the senior who makes the most deposits during their high school career. In order to gain a “scholarship point,” the deposit must be at least a $5.00 minimum. Please see me for questions and details.

Heisman High School Scholarship
The Heisman High School Scholarship program honors the nation’s most accomplished, community-minded high school senior athletes. Applying for the Heisman High School Scholarship is your chance to earn a scholarship toward college, as well as local, state, and national recognition for all that you’ve put into your high school career. If you’ve maintained at least a B average, participate in at least one eligible sport, are a leader in your community and role model at your school, then you’ve got what it takes. 100 scholarships to students ranging from $500 - $5,000 will be awarded. Rural Voices Youth Contest
“Rural Kansas…Rural by Choice”
The 2019-2020 Rural Voices Youth Contest theme is “Rural Kansas…My Community.” The NCRPC invites high school seniors in North Central Kansas to prepare an original essay or video based on the contest theme and address the following in their entries:
Opportunity can be created no matter where a person lives. Many young people and entrepreneurs are making the choice to stay or return to their rural community to live, work, and prosper. What can be done in your community or in the region to encourage people to want to move or return there? What challenges must be overcome to encourage others to choose rural?
For a chance to win $850, candidates must enter an original work based on this theme by preparing an essay or producing a short video. High School seniors in the following counties may participate: Clay, Cloud, Dickinson, Ellsworth, Jewell, Lincoln, Marshall, Mitchell, Ottawa, Republic, Saline, and Washington. In addition to the individual registration for competition, the NCRPC is allowing a team of up to four individuals to work together to complete a video entry. Rudd Foundation Scholarship
The Rudd Scholarship is a competitive, 4-year award designed to pay any remaining costs associated with tuition and fees, books and supplies, and room and board after accounting for all other grants, scholarship and financial awards. To be eligible for this renewable scholarship, a student must be a resident of the state of Kansas, have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above, demonstrate financial need, and must be admitted and will attend Emporia State University, Fort Hays State University, or Wichita State University. National Honor Society Scholarship Program
Applications for the 2019-20 NHS Scholarship Program have now opened. All NHS senior members in good standing are eligible to apply. Since 1946, more than $15 million in scholarships has been awarded to outstanding NHS senior members. The total scholarship distribution for 2019-2020 is $2 million for 600 scholarship winners. NHS students are among those considered to make their higher education dreams more affordable. Deadline to submit the student portion of the application form is December 06, 2019. AXA Achievement Scholarship
The AXA Achievement Scholarship provides over $1.4 million in scholarships to young people throughout the nation representing all 50 states, Washington DC and Puerto Rico. Students have the opportunity to receive a $2,500, $10,000 or $25,000 scholarship. Scholarship winners are ethnically and economically diverse, and share the qualities of ambition and drive, determination to set and reach goals, respect for self, family, and community, and the ability to succeed in college. Burger King Scholars Program
Created in memory of BURGER KING® Co-founder James “Jim” W. McLamore, the BURGER KING℠ Scholars program has awarded $35 million in scholarships to more than 33,000 high school students, BK® employees and their families across the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico since 2000. In 2018 alone, the Foundation awarded $3.7 million to more than 3,400 students in North America. Scholarship grants range from $1,000 to $50,000 and are intended to help students offset the cost of attending college or post-secondary vocational/technical school. Recipients are selected based on their grade point average (GPA), work experience, extracurricular activities and community service. Application deadline is Dec. 15, 2019. Kansas State Chapter of ACACIA Fraternity
The Acacia Leadership Scholarship is a one-time scholarship awarded to incoming male freshmen at the Manhattan Campus of Kansas State University who display excellence in academics, motivation for personal success, and an interest in studying the principles of leadership. The GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program
The GE-REGAN Foundation scholarship program is committed to cultivating the next generation of citizen-leaders. The program is intended for high school seniors who demonstrate leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship. Each year, the scholarship program selects roughly 20 college-bound students who excel in these areas to receive $10,000 renewable scholarships—up to $40,000 total per recipient. Margaret Van Horn Scholarship
Funds for the Margaret Van Horn Scholarship have been allocated by members of the Kansas State Department of Education Association of Educational Office Professionals (KSDE AEOP). The scholarship program is open to current Kansas High School, College, and/or Technical School students. Applicant must intend to continue his/her education in an education or business-related program and must be enrolled in a minimum of nine semester hours (at least half-time). Enrollment must be in an accredited post-secondary educational facility within the state of Kansas. A scholarship is awarded annually. The amount is based on gifts and funds raised by the association. The amount for this year is $300.00. Use of the scholarship award is intended to offset the cost of tuition, books, class fees, supplies, or other scholastic expenses. Applications must be postmarked by January 16, 2020. Bluestem Electric Cooperative, Inc. Scholarship
The Bluestem Electric Cooperative is once again awarding ten (10) scholarships--six (6) $750 scholarships and four (4) $500 scholarships-- to high school seniors whose parents/guardians are members of Bluestem Electric Cooperative. Information about these scholarships can be found at the following link or in the fall issue of the Kansas Country Living magazine. There are two stages to this process beginning with completing the online application, followed by an interview if selected as a finalist. Kansas Kiwanis Foundation
Kiwanis is a service organization dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.The organization provides scholarships to Kansas seniors who are pursuing post-secondary education. Last year they granted over forty scholarships amounting to over $30,000. Applications are available on line at www.kskiwanis.org/scholarships. I have also included the hard copy application in this packet. Deadline for mailing is a postmark date of January 15, 2020.
Central Valley Ag Scholarship
The Central Valley Ag Scholarship Program is to assist the further education of students of CVA member-owners and CVA employees interested in pursuing higher education in an agriculturally related field. CVA will offer sixteen $1,000 scholarships to students of CVA member-owners and four $1,000 scholarships to students of CVA employees. The 2019-2020 CVA Scholarship Program is now open for applications. Complete guidelines and the application may be accessed at CVACOOP.COM/CAREERS. The scholarship deadline is March 02, 2020.
The Pony Express Scholarship Essay Contest
The Pony Express Riders of Kansas have established the Pony Express Scholarship Essay Contest. There are seventeen available scholarships which will be awarded to the top entries chosen by a team of judges. The scholarship amounts are as follows: First Place $2,000; two $1,500; three $1,000; six $750; and five $500 scholarships. I have enclosed the application and details for this scholarship. We have always done quite well with this scholarship and I would highly encourage you to apply! I will be happy to mail the applications to Mr. Ladner on March 11, 2020 to ensure they are delivered in timely fashion, as the deadline is March 15, 2019. The Kansas Masonic Lodge Foundation Scholarship
The Kansas Masonic Foundation seeks to advance education for the common good and well-being of our society. The purpose of these scholarships is to provide financial assistance to undergraduate students who are pursuing opportunities for personal and professional growth via higher education. The Kansas Masonic Foundation awarded 247 scholarships ion 2019. Applications are being accepted from December 01, 2019 through March 15, 2020. Senior Scholarship Update
Kansas Grain and Feed Association Scholarships
The Kansas Grain and Feed Association will award the following scholarships for the
2019-2020 school year on the basis of merit:
- 1 – $500 Dub and Inez Johnson Memorial Scholarship ($250 each semester)
- 4 – $1,000 KGFA Scholarships ($500 each semester)
- 14 – $1,500 KGFA Scholarships ($750 each semester)
Requirements for this scholarship include applicants who are graduating Kansas high-school seniors; are self-starters; maintain excellent academic credentials; are solid school and community citizens; have a strong desire to continue their education; and plan on attending any Kansas 4-year university, community college or vocational technical school. The deadline for this application is 5:00 p.m., March 06, 2020—no exceptions will be made. The Kansas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (KACRAO) offers scholarships to reward students who have demonstrated quality leadership during their high school years. There are four $500 awards available each academic year, which may be used at KACRAO member institutions. The scholarships will be designated as follows; one per school type: four-year public, four-year private, community college, and technical college. The awards are not need-based and may be used in conjunction with other awards. To be eligible for consideration for these scholarships, students must be in their senior year at a Kansas high school, have a cumulative seventh semester GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale, and submit an application, which includes uploading a one-page essay, letter of reference, and resume. The deadline to apply for the scholarship is March 15, 2020. Successful award recipients will be notified in May and posted on the KACRAO website after May 15, 2020. (For your information, Southeast Community College is a KACRAO member, so those of you attending SCC may also apply).
The Kansas County Clerks’ and Election Officers’ Association News Election Service Scholarship
The Kansas County Clerks' and Election Officials' Association awards scholarships annually to Kansas high school seniors and college freshmen and sophomores, provided they carry a minimum 3.0 GPA. The scholarships are for those students who major in Journalism, Political Science, Communications, or Business. This scholarship has been in place for several years and was started by the funds the KCCEOA received from the Associated Press and major news outlets for election night reporting. The bulk of the funding now comes from donations and from funds received through a silent auction held annually at the spring conference of the association. This scholarship program has awarded hundreds of scholarships to the youth of Kansas over the years and hopes to continue to do so in the years to come. Enclosed please find the application instructions and manual application form. The deadline for receipt of submission of this scholarship is March 30, 2020.
Farmers’ Cooperative Scholarship
Farmers Cooperative will award a $500.00 scholarship to one graduating senior that will be attending college as a full time student majoring in agriculture or an agricultural related field. To be eligible for this scholarship, students must submit an application along with an essay and their parents must be active members of Farmers Cooperative. I have included the application which is due in my office by March 31, 2020.
Barnes Lions’ Club Scholarship
For the past several years, the Barnes Lion’s Club has given a scholarship to a student that is connected to the club or does community service in the Barnes area. Beginning this year, the Barnes Lions’ Club is offering two scholarships and students in the Hanover, Linn, and Washington schools will be considered. The club has also decided to require students to fill out a basic application form, which I have included. Application deadline is April 01, 2020.
The Mansfield Family Foundation Scholarship
The Mansfield Family Foundation Scholarship is awarded to persons who graduated from school districts which lay in the borders of Washington County, KS. Although there are no restrictions as to who may qualify to be a recipient of this prestigious scholarship, certain considerations might be given extra attention. Those items include: persons who may not otherwise be able to continue their education; persons who desire to enter some field in the medical profession; or persons who desire to return to Washington County, KS to pursue their occupation or profession after completing their education. Further details are outlined in the application packet which I have enclosed in this folder. Application deadline is prior to April 01, 2020.
The Gerald G. Ricard Scholarship
It was Gerald G. Ricard’s goal to provide a scholarship to a motivated student that may not have the means to further their education. For him any higher learning was important to expand opportunities and enrich one’s life. Any high school student within Marshall and Washington counties pursuing further education through college or a trade school with financial need is eligible to apply for this scholarship. Scholarship amount to be awarded is approximately up to $5,000 per semester. Funds can be used for tuition and books only. Completed applications must be submitted for review by the scholarship committee by April 01, 2020. Application and details are included in this packet.
The Washington County Saddle Club and Rodeo, Inc. Scholarship
The Washington County Saddle Club and Rodeo, Inc. is offering a scholarship in the amount of $500 to a Spring, 2020 graduating high school senior. The candidate must be attending a two or four-year college majoring in an aspect of agriculture. I have enclosed the scholarship application which has a deadline of April 01, 2020.
Schaefer Outfitter Scholarship
Schaefer Outfitter is in the business of helping people feel and look their best, so they can do their best out on the ranch. It’s in this spirit they are committed to helping students pursue an education in agriculture. They are announcing the launch of the annual Schaefer Outfitter Scholarship Program in support of those who plan to pursue one of the following degrees: Agriculture, Agricultural Business and Economics, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Agribusiness, Agriculture Education, Agriculture Science, Agricultural Engineering, or Agricultural Economics. Schaefer Outfitter will offer a scholarship of $1,000 to be paid to any college or university toward the cost of tuition. The scholarship money will be paid in one lump sum payment to the school and cannot be split into various semesters. Applicants should be senior high-school students attending college for the Fall 2020 or Spring 2021 semester. During the application process, they will be accepting applications in the following way: Write a response at least 500 words, and up to 1,500 words, in length about what or who inspired you to pursue a career in agriculture. The application should be emailed to Rick@SchaeferOutfitter.com only during the application period. Applications sent after the deadline will not be considered for Fall 2020 or Spring 2021 semester. Make sure to include your contact information. List your full name, phone number, mailing address and email address. Applications must be in Microsoft Word format or PDF and no other formats will be accepted. Do not include anything other than your article and contact information. They will be accepting any and all applications through April 30, 2020.
The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. In order to do their part, they are offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student. All student athletes are eligible regardless of the sport they are engaged in or the capacity in which they participate. The student must be a high school senior or be attending a post-secondary institute. The amount of this scholarship is $500 and the deadline to apply is June 19, 2020.
