Western Wednesday

Hello parents! My name is Whitney Niehues and I am your Family Advocate at Hanover and Linn Schools! So, what is a Family Advocate? Great question! I was hired by USD 223 as part of the Creating Caring Schools Grant Initiative funded by the Health Resources & Services Administration. You can look at me as your partner between school and home! My primary responsibilities include connecting families with services and resources in the community, supporting the teachers in providing Social Emotional Learning through the Second Step Curriculum, and offering mental health training to staff, parents, and community members (coming soon!). I will also be developing a Resource Closet at each of the schools to provide basic needs items such as school supplies, clothing, hygiene products, food/snacks, etc. The best part is that these services are based on the needs of the student and family, NOT income! I look forward to getting to know your family and if there is anything you need, big or small, please do not hesitate to reach out! You can contact me at 785-562-6818 or wniehues@usd223.org
