Counseling lessons centered on gratitude and thankfulness this month. We discussed how each student brings something great to our class! As a class we brainstormed what we wanted to write for each person. It was fun to hear all the amazing attributes our students came up with about each other.

Yesterday our Juniors and Seniors traveled to Linn to participate in the REALL Simulation hosted by NEK‑CAP. The REALL (Reality Enrichment And Life Lessons) project is a hands‑on simulation for students in grades 7-12 that challenges them to think critically about how adolescent choices and decisions can have real consequences in adulthood.

Several key concepts are:
-Identify components and sources of income
-Analyze how career choice, education, skills, and economic conditions affect income and goal attainment
-Relate taxes, government transfer payments, and employee benefits to disposable income
-Explain how financial resources affect the choices people make

Students spent the morning applying these ideas — budgeting for utilities, discovering the high cost of daycare (and experiencing the stress of missed pickups), responding to eviction notices when rent wasn’t paid, and even facing simulated jail time for some. The experience offered powerful, practical lessons about financial responsibility and long‑term planning.

A big thank you to NEK‑CAP for this experience and to our volunteers for helping put on the event.
