Building cardboard boats is typically an 8th grade tradition but last year we ran short on time, so this year Freshmen were allowed to try their hand at it. This project incorporates physical science principles like surface tension, density, and buoyancy, and also includes the skills of orthographic drawing, construction, collaboration, and communication. Once built, students tested their engineering prowess by floating their boats in the shallows of the pond. Each boat had to support the mass of at least two of their team mates, and happily each boat passed the minimum requirements!

Due to wet bulb readings, both football practices will be modified today. Both teams will be after school today in the old gym. JH will finish up around 5:15. Tomorrow both groups will be in the morning with full pads. Thanks.

STEAM is working on the construction of mini cars using 4.5 V DC motors, rubber bands, or propellers. Students have their choice of a variety of materials to try and build the most energy efficient car, while also claiming the title of fastest car in the class.
