It's time to think about the Seal of Biliteracy! If you are a senior or someone not enrolled in a Spanish 2 course and WANT to seize this opportunity, please contact tkearn@usd223.org by December 16th. This nationally-recognized credential allows students to demonstrate proficiency in English and a non-English language, thereby recognizing a student’s readiness for career or college and for engagement as a global citizen. In addition, the Seal of Biliteracy affirms values of diversity and recognizes the multiple cultures and languages of our community. Spanish 2 students and any graduating senior will take proficiency tests to determine eligibility.

Elementary students have been learning about the power of gratitude this month. Yesterday, fourth graders got to enjoy the windy weather while completing a gratitude scavenger hunt. By practicing gratitude daily, individuals can reduce the effects of stress, increase empathy, improve their health, and feel better prepared to deal with challenges.

Freshman students worked together to define aspects of healthy and unhealthy communication, as well as practiced “I” statements as a constructive communication device. An “I” statement is a technique used to express yourself when you are upset without accusing the other person or escalating the situation. It encourages productive discussion and conflict resolution.
